Han Ye-Ji

Lee Jin-Yong
Abstract
Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate randomized controlled trials using acupuncture therapy on postpartum hypogalactia for their recent trend. The aim of this clinical review was to assess the evidence of the impact of acupuncture on postpartum hypogalactia.

Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that were published as full papers assessing acupuncture on postpartum hypogalactia were included. Databases were searched through China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) from 2013 to 2017.

Results: A total of 16 studies were reviewed using analysis criteria developed by the researcher. Analyses of related studies indicated that the curative effect was significantly higher in the acupuncture treatment group than general treatment, western medicine or no treatment group. The most commonly used acupoints were Shaoze (SI1, ÷Ê), Shanzhong (CV17, ?ñé), Rugen (ST18, êáÐÆ). Frequently used merdians were the Ren Channel and the Stomach Channel of Foot-Yangming. There were no serious adverse events reported from acupuncture treatment group during the treatment period.

Conclusions: The existing evidence suggests that acupuncture may play a role in the treatment of postpartum hypogalactia. Future research should define an optimal acupuncture treatment, measure quality of life, and assess acupuncture combined with other modalities.
